We live in New England where winters are cold. No big secret there. We want to turn some of the cellar space into living space. We'd like to insulate the floor by raising it above the concrete floor. Is there a recommended process and materials that we should use such as some type of insulation. The floor is dry. We are just looking for some method to keep the floor "LESS" cold.

I am in the Boston area and deal with these types of floors all the time. You can search previous posts for more information on the topic. Just be aware that just because you consider it a "dry" basement, you may develope condensation under the flooring which can initiate mold growth and harbor bacteria. Perforated rubber flooring is comfortable because it allows the floor surface to breath. However, dust and dirt will settle in the holes, which makes vacuuming more difficult. Solid recycled rubber flooring can leech chemicals into the basement's air making for an unhealthy living space.
