Can anyone help me on how I should add EXTRA insulation to my home as the contractors build it?
I want our 2 story home to be well insulated and the contractors will do the "normal" isulating, but waht else can I do and what phase of the building process should I do it? Are there nay books or internet resources concerning this?
I was thinking about insulating outlets, around windows and doors and in the attic. The contractor will do the normal insulation around doors and windows, but can I do more on my own?

Insulation will be installed after framing, rough plumbing and electrical is complete and inspected. It will be installed in a day or less, then covered with a vapor barrier and drywall. It is really difficult for the homeowner to spend quality time touching up details because this phase of construction normally moves quickly. Also, it should be a pretty complete job. The most likely omissions are between joists at the top plate and the band joist. This could be crawl space, basement first or second story. Insulation can also have minor gaps or be thin in walls behind wire and pipe runs and behind outlet and switch boxes.

With today's infiltration barriers like Tyvek and internal vapor barriers, it really doesn't pay to further tighten up the house. If you are going to participate in this, work with your builder. Its probably better if you act as an inspector and notify your builder of any concerns, rather than get in the way with actually affecting the work of the insulation subs. Tampering with their work could make a call-back difficult.
