Insulating a ceiling between....

09/10/2006 07:08 AM Winterchase

My basement, which is being converted into an apartment, already has a ceiling, but no insulation between it and the floor above. I'm most concerned about the top, along where it joins the outside walls.

The "locals" advise that the only way is to tear out the existing ceiling, insulate it, and replace it with a new one. They said that if I used foam, I'd bow the ceiling and would have to replace it anyway, so why not pay....

I'm retired. Get real. Can foam be used?
