Insulating a pier and beam craw space

08/18/2006 10:54 AM jpalazzi

I have a 1920s pier and beam house that isn’t pinned up all the way around. We live in Baton Rouge LA and that is how they do things in my neighborhood.

In the wintertime it seems to get pretty drafty as there is no insulation in the walls and the windows are original.

I was hoping that I could insulate the underneath with bats and see if that would help seal things up. I know i need to put a vapor barrier, but do you think i should pin it up too? will any of this help keep the floors warmer?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
