Interior wood trim

I purchased a house that was built in 1953. The interior has the original wood trim and doors. They are in good shape, but the color of the stain is a light brown, goldish color (see attached picture). It looks like a color that was very popular in 1953, not 2007. I'm thinking about painting the trim white. Some people have advised me to do it and others have said that it will cause the house to lose value. Any opinions?
