Intermittent spin cycle

11/25/2007 02:17 PM webfootfreak

I was recently given a Kenmore 80 series washer model 110.23812100. While running a normal cycle, it will sometimes skip the first spin cycle. The water will drain, and then just sit there. If I stop the machine, and then spin the knob, and restart the machine on the spin cycle, it'll fire back up.

Motor running?

Without the motor even running or can you still hear the motor running and turning the pump but it just isn't spinning the tub?

okay... when it hits the spin cycle the motor is still running, but not spinning. If i lift the lid, I hear a heavy *thunk* and it engages. If I miss the spin cycle totally, I just shut it off, spin the dial back to the start of the cycle, restart it and it works fine...

Timer not pausing

By "engages" I assume you mean it starts to spin.

If so, your experiment is what is used to confirm a problem in the timer is the probable cause (see the following link) in which case the timer likely needs to be replaced to correct the condition.
