It worked Now it is back to weak!

OK, I took out the flame spreader, (and broke the screw while I was loosening the nut)
I took a grout cleaning brush, which is pretty coarse, but is not nearlyh as stiff as a wire brush. I carefully cleaned out the gas vents. I was afraid to use my vacum to clean up the debris, so I just cleaned as much as I could with a damp paper towel.

Turned the circut breaker back on, then put the oven on and VIOLA, the gas was spreading and the oven was maintining the bake temperature!

I shut the oven off then replaced the flame spreader, albeit without a nut....then put all the racks back.

I tried the oven again and it heated up! Then, I was curious if the self-clean feature would NOW work again, IT DID!

4 hours later, I decided to bake choc chip cookies.....sigh, the oven did NOT maintain the temperature. I removed the flame spreader again, and turned the oven back on....nothing. Then tried blowing compressed air into the holes hoping that any debris would be disspated.....to no avail.

1. SHOULD I TRY TO USE A METAL BRUSH? like the kind you use on a radiatior or car battery?

2. Or, should I order a new burner? How difficult is it to replace this? Do I need to shut off the gas entirely to do so, or just shut down the circut breaker to the electric outlet?

3. If advised to clean out the burner again, can I use my hand vacum to clean up all the debris around the burner,. or is that too dangerous?

Thanks in advance
Callie
