Kenmore Stackable Dryer Help

02/19/2008 10:47 PM setforvb

Thanks for the past assistance I got from this board. I have a new problem with my Kenmore stackable dryer - 417.97802791. Started drying clothes and got a horrible burning smell. I opened the access panel in the back and the belt is still intact. I can't tell if the smell is from the belt or something with the heating element. I started removing side screws and back screws to get some access to try and figure out the problem but I can't seem to get in there. How to do I open this thing up correctly without bending any more of the panels! Help?!

Thanks, setforvb

Accessing laundry center dryer components

** Kenmore stackable dryer [model] 417.97802791 **

JFYI. That is the model number of a permanently stacked washer/dryer (aka a "laundry center").

** Started drying clothes and got a horrible burning smell. **

Has anyone checked the dryer venting (see the following link)?

Most service on newer laundry appliances is usually done from the front. On a laundry center, removing the slanted panel above the washer lid is often necessary to access the dryer's main components. To access the element on your particular model, the dryer front panel will need to be removed and also the drum.

Your laundry center was made for Sears by Frigidaire. If you need a service manual the one at the following link should cover most basic repairs on your Kenmore model too.

DanO,

Thanks for the information. Tomorrow is going to be D-Day (Dryer Day). I'm gonna reassemble what i started taking apart then go at it through the front.
