Replace lid switch

02/04/2008 12:59 PM DanO Moderator

** I have duct taped the assembly to the underside of the machine. I guess I have to replace the entire assembly **

Yes.

** I'm just unsure how to go about it. **

On the 'direct drive' washer design like you have the whole cabinet may have to be removed (or at least tilted forward) to access the switch assembly and wiring:

Thanks. Those instructions are very detailed. It seems somewhat simple.

My next question is regarding the part though. I went to the link you provided me and could only find a hit on the Sears Direct Parts list, but not sure if it's right because they don't have pics. But, I also went to the link you provided the other guy:

- Kenmore 110.22712100 Lid Switch Asm.
LINK > www.appliance411.com/data.php?ap=AP3100001

But his is a different model number and I can't seem to find mine at that same site. Am I missing something? Or will the same part work with my washer?

Thanks again.

Kenmore 110.22722100 Lid Switch

Yes, your washer model uses that same lid switch. It is a fairly common one although there are a couple of different ones used on other washer models. It may not look absolutely identical to the original but it is the factory suggested replacement.

What two cables to cut and connect for temp solution?

04/28/2008 01:00 PM Patrick08

My lid switch on my Kenmore 70 series (don't know the model number, haven't looked for it yet) broke yesterday and I'm so happy to find this thread. Could you be a little more specific about what two cables to cut and connect for temp solution before you got your new part? I could see that the broken plastic piece has two cables attached? Are these the ones and I can do it without removing the case? Also, how did you remove the case to put in the new switch. Many many thanks to your timely advice in advance.

It would be the wires going to/from the lid switch but bypassing any safety device (which the lid switch is) except for the limited purpose of testing is not a good idea.
