Help! My fridge (Kirkland) leaks a puddle of water down to the fridge during the defrost cycle (I think) I have defrosted the freezer thoroughly as it seems to get worse and then I have an ice sheet in the floor of the fridge. Really annoying as there is at least 2 cups of water pooling on the top shelf of the fridge unit every day. I would love some advice for out here in the wilds of Oregon, its a long way to repair-land.

Thanks for the reply, the model number is ST21HPXPQ00 (sounds like the serial # of a nuke!) It is made by Whirlpool. It has a top freezer and lower fridge unit. At some point during the cycle, a drip begins in the ceiling of the fridge until about 2 cups of water leaks through. This freezer does NOT have an ice maker. When I defrosted the freezer I unplugged the unit and used my hairdryer on cold (don't laugh!) until all parts and channels were warm and dry (over an hour) After a while, an ice sheet begins building up on the floor of the freezer. Thr fridge is functioning well, and so is the freezer - I have made sure not to block the unit in the freezer as I wasn't sure if that was adding to the problem. :-( Thanks for your time.

It sounds like your defrost water drain is plugged and overflowing each time a defrost occurs (every 6-12 hours). That water puddles and freezes.

The part that really needs the attention will be *behind* the back panel in the freezer compartment. The evaporator (cooling) coil is there and beneath it a drain trough with a hole in it which is suppose to catch the defrost water and funnel it to the drain tube on the back of the fridge. That drain hole may be plugged with stray food stuffs (and now ice) and need deicing and clearing.
