Welcome Mark!
Interesting treatment--the web site and all. Not a bad way to go!
I'm not a pro by any stretch, but I am just finishing our kitchen remodel.
As yours is a condo, you probably are restricted in some ways (such as, you can't "push out" walls, etc. This is probably a good thing--keeps things simpler--and cheaper!
Actually, as kitchens go, I think ours looked a lot worse :)
I'd say there are some good things about your layout. I like the place for the fridge--where it looks somewhat recessed. One thing about many re-done kitchens is that fridges can be built-in (very expensive). You might be able to get some of this look by building cabinetry above it, and possibly (if you like) a new piece to the right of the fridge to match cabinetry. Kind of visually reduce the "massiveness" of the fridge, maybe.
Well, if it were me, I'd find a way to brighten up the area above the sink. You typically see a window above (probably not possible in a condo).
You can also have a good time with lighting these days. There are some real cool lights out there.
This also may not be possible in your condo (?) but I'd definitely put in a gas (or dual-fuel) range. Of course this is personal taste--but it is definitely a superior cooktop.
One more thing--a question to ask yourself--how do YOU use the area and what has driven you crazy about it over the years? Do you ever cook in there with other(s)--and bump into each other in the same places every time?
For example, if it were me I'd jettison the peninsula and instead run the new cabinetry closer to the patio doors. This would open up the room a little, plus give you some more storage area. But if you use and like the peninsula the way it is, well--you get the idea--you are the one who knows best!
Best of luck on your project!
