Lighting Fixture

11/07/2005 06:01 PM cfpx1209

Please Help!!!!

I'm replacing a Ceiling Light. The old Fixture was a Pull String type, and it was on a Switch line, as well. I'm facing 3 Cables:

1) Power Cable (on Right Side)
2) Switch Cable (on Right Side)
3) Cable to Another Fixture (on Left Side)

All cables look the same.

HOW DO I CONNECT, A NEW LIGHT FIXTURE??????????

I tried connecting all common wires together, (black to black, white to white, and copper to copper). Then I attached the White Fixture wire to the White bundle, and the Black Fixture wire to the Black bundle. OOOOOPPPPPPSSSSS!!!!!

I have now disconnected all the wires, and want to start over. What is the proper order, for connecting all these wires? I want the extisting Wall Switch, to power both Fixtures.

Thanks,
Bob Grandan

If you have 2 lights controlled by one switch (in series), the usual Black - hot and white - neutral is not the case. In this case the power is coming from a hot wire in the switch, through the first light bulb then being carried through the white wire to the next light, and so on until it gets back to the switch.

To figure out how to fix this requires a voltmeter and ohmeter and some knowledge of AC ckts... You may want to conisder a pro.

Remember - this is my guess based on the info you provided!! good luck
