Locating a specific type of door

07/24/2007 12:40 PM greggor36

Hello -
I am hoping someone can help me locate a specific type of exterior door. I remember seeing this type of door on an older home (1970's) back in my hometown but I haven't seen another one ever since.

The door is a solid, exterior door that has a rectangular, framed screen in the middle of it. On the inside of the door are several (maybe 10) small, cross rectangular glass plates that when a lever is pulled, they tilt inward and allow the breeze to blow through the screen and enter the house. The glass plates are louvered and kind of operate like a window blind.

In any case, I hope I described this well enough for someone to know what I am talking about as well as tell me where I could locate one if they're still being made.

Thanks for any information and help!

Greg

They still work

I replace them from time to time and most of them still work. I am not aware of a vendor that still makes them.

locating a specific type of door

is a website with information about jalousie windows, popular in the 1950s. I think this is the kind of door you are looking for. It was more for solid porches -- more substantial than a screen door. It is not very secure as a standard house door.
