Low cost balustrade ideas?

05/14/2003 10:23 AM glenn44149

Hello,

My wife loves the look of the neighbor's balustrade around their patio. So much so, that she would like to put add one to the deck we are planning. I found a company called Fypon that makes a lightweight balustrade system. http://www.fypon.com/Products.htm

Unfortunately, when I checked the prices at the local lumberyard the balustrade could easily equal the price of our entire deck! Does anyone have any lower cost alternatives?

Thank you,

Glenn L.

over a lifetime, a Fypon Railing system can easily be less expensive than many alternatives, because you won't be repacing and repairing it every ten years or so due to rotting wood.

I work on high end custom jobs and sometimes use Red cedar to mill my own. It runs about the same cost installed but has a higher painting cost after the carpentry is done.

Thanks for the info!

One other company that had some lower priced neoprene balustrade systems was www.stylesolutions.com

Buy balastrade systems

Keep in mind that synthetic products like Fypon and Style Solutions will outlive any wood product.

Fypon has a balastrade installation video on their new website that might give you some idea of what it's like to handle the product.

You can buy at a lumber yard but you might also want to look online. I ran a search on froogle.google.com and found a website called www.incrediblehome.com. They are running a 30% off sale right now on all Fypon products with a flat $29.95 shipping rate.

Good luck!

You could cut the baluster profile out of flat stock, similar to victorian verandas, for a real low cost solution? :)
