Lumber Liquidators Complaint

09/19/2003 05:39 PM Scott Francisco

A word of caution for anyone thinking of buying from Lumber Liquidators.

I spent some time on they're web site, and called the Cleveland, OH store to see if the had what I wanted in stock. I spoke with the store manager, who told me that they did indeed have it, but he wasn't sure if it was on hold for another customer. He asked that I call back. This was on Monday, and I called him back on Friday. He told me that he had it, and that it was available, so we rented a vehicle large enough to bring it all home and drove the 4 hours to the store.

When we got there, *** acted like he had no idea who I was, told me that the flooring was not available, even though he had told me that morning that it was and knew I was driving up to get it. I asked about other flooring, and it was obvious that *** had better things to do. What that was, I don't know. There were no other customers in the store at the time, and *** was standing and talking with another employee.

Needless to say, I did not buy flooring that day.

The next week I called the 800 number on there web site, and spoke to Theresa. She called me back that day and told me that I would be hearing from the regional manager. It has now been ten days, and I have not heard from the regional, or from Theresa after leaving her messages.

I am disgusted by the non existent customer service that they have shown, both at the Cleveland store and they're home office. I am out a days work for two people, 9 hours of time, and the travel costs, and they can't even bother to return my calls.

Bad Service, Product, and End Result

12/21/2004 11:36 AM teracon

Below is a copy of my horrid experience with the Lumber Liquidators in Beltsville, MD. The staff, without a doubt, is absent of basic customer service. The battle is continuing as I am faced with filing a motion in court.

==============================

I am responding to your letter dated October 22, 2004 requesting additional information on the dispute regarding Lumber Liquidators in the amount of $522.59. In my original letter, I entailed the particulars and listed what steps I took to rectify the situation.

I have again listed the points below:

• The item(s) were purchased from Lumber Liquidators located in Beltsville, MD on 09/11/2004.
• The item(s) were returned because they were found to be of “poor” quality. I had a contractor address this issue (please see enclosed letter from contractor dated 10/15/2004). I worked diligently to obtain either an exchange or refund for the product since the quality of the item(s) – Brazilian Wood Cherry Flooring was poor. There were significant inconsistencies in the wood pattern as well as the wood coloring.
• The date of return was 10/9/2004 at the store location Beltsville, MD. I presented the item(s) to ***** and **** ***** (Manager and Assistant Manager) in their Lumber Liquidator showroom. The contract/sales agreement clearly states that an “exchange” is an option with “no” restocking fee incurred. However, this was not the case as both Wayne and Mike Holtz would not fulfill their own agreement. Both **** and **** ***** did not present a receipt of return for the item(s), however, I have a witness account that the item(s) were in their possession.

Again, I hope to have this situation resolved soon. I purchased the item(s) from this facility with the understanding that I would be receiving a quality product (I was assured by the store location management). What I received was a poor quality product that I am not at all happy with. I contacted the merchant (Lumber Liquidators) several times and was ignored. Therefore, I personally visited the store and gave them their merchandise; only after they would not honor my request for a refund or an exchange (which is listed in their sales agreement).

Update (2)

01/11/2005 01:49 PM teracon

I am updating you on my issues with Lumber Liquidators. I can gladly say that my issue with Lumber Liquidators has been resolved. This may not have been a happy ending if it was not from the determination, caring and drive of the Corp office manager Kathy Hamilton. She is the true meaning of customer service and should be rewarded for her hard work and caring heart. Given the way the issue was handled, I will give some serious consideration in buying from LL in the future!!!

Don't buy online from them!

05/03/2008 12:34 AM leapfrog0202

My experience was different, but bad. We bought 1000 sq. ft. of hardwood flooring on a big sale the weekend of Easter 2008. We chose store delivery.

10 days after purchasing the flooring and having the $2,000 + taken from our debit account, no one had contacted us regarding picking up our flooring.

I called the store here only to find out that there wasn't enough flooring to fill my order! I realize it is 1st come 1st served, but 10 days and no one emails or calls to say "hey, we ran out, here's your $2000 and some dollars back?"

So I clicked the link to write to the President, but what I got was an email from some flunky saying "it's 1st come 1st served" not even addressing that now 14 days has passed and Lumber Liquidators had our money all this time and didn't even bother to notify us!

My thing is where is their inventory tracking software that automatically stops sales when the inventory of that product is low? Where is the checking to make sure that no one's money was taken without them getting product?

Seems like amateur night to me and I think Bob Vila, Rush Limbaugh, Ty Pennington and the others that flog this product must get it for free or they'd complain too.

Lumber Liquidators solution? To give us back our money 16 days after taking it, leaving us with no product. Not even a discount on a different product due to the hassles we went through and the fact that they had our money that long. Lousy customer service if you ask me.

Reason we purchased from them?

05/03/2008 12:35 AM leapfrog0202

We purchased from them because we'd been looking at teak flooring and this price was killer if we bought over 1000 sq. ft. Well that's almost exactly what we needed so we went for it.

I didn't realize we'd be making them an interest free loan for 16 days!
