WHERE DOES MILDEW COME FROM. EVERYTIME IT IS HOT MY CLOSETS SMELL BAD. I THINK IT IS THE WOOD. I THINK THERE IS MILDEW. HOW DO I LOCATE THE SOURCE.

Mold takes three things to survive: a source (it usually comes in from outdoors), a food supply (mold has to eat--usually cellulose based materials but can also eat dust on hard surfaces) and moisture. To deal with it you have to eliminate the moisture. You need to determine where the moisture is coming from. If it is in a damp corner, it's because moisture is either condensing there or infiltrating from somewhere else. If it is simple humidity (like in a basement), you can get a dehumidifier or even a product called "Damp-Rid" that absorbs moisture. If there is water infiltration coming from somewhere else though you have to find that or the problem will just keep getting worse.

I me and my husband are thinking of buying a home that we both really like.the home has lots of character,unfortunatly it also has lots of mold and a water damaged roof and cieling that has been left open and leaking for some time.the roof seems fixable enough,but my biggest worry is the mold which covers alot of the cement walls in this old home.my son is allergic to mold among other things.My question is how do I get rid of the mold and make this home safe for my son?Any advice would be helpful-thanks!
