I have 3 of these toilets and they have been gradually getting harder to flush. This morning I broke the trip lever. Does replacing the seal fix the hard flushing?

I'll answer my own question, I went to the local plumbing store that sells mansfield parts and bought a seal, replaced it and it flushes very easy now. Replacing it was extremely easy and required no tools. the seal itself cost $3.30. What happens is over time the seal conforms to the shape of the float and creates "vacuum" type feeling. I'm glad I didn't call a plumber to do a 2 minute job and for a $3 part!

I have the same problem (hard flushing) with my two Mansfield toilets and did a search on the problem. Vila's page popped right up. Was glad to see I wasn't the only one with this problem. Appreciated all the forum responses and the suggested fix by replacing the red valve seal.

Here's a way to save the trip to Home Depot and $3 to boot. I went to Mansfield's web page and then called their Customer Support number, 877-850-3060. The rep agreed that replacing the seal was the correct fix and said she would mail me two new seals, no charge.

Just to follow up on my adventures in toilet repair: I received the two free valve seals from Mansfield this week. Came with instructions for installing correctly to ensure that seal is properly seated so that toilet doesn't run. Took about 15 minutes. Works like new.
Ah, that all toilet troubles could be so easily remedied!

An earlier post sent by baadabing is absolutely correct. I removed a 210 unit from my commode completely, only to find out that it is the gasket that the flush valve sits on. I went to a builders plumbing parts supply store and just bought a new 210 toilet flush valve, just to get the gasket I needed. It looked a little different than the original one. It is just simply a round red gasket that fits into the same groove that the original one was in. Total cost of the unit was about $10.00. Maybe you can just find the gasket somewhere. Good Luck.

If I have to replace the red rubber seal (because the suction is making it hard to flush), do I have to remove the entire flush valve and hince the tank?

no.the tank doesn't need to come off.

Then how do I remove it?
