Max lights on 15 Amp

01/03/2008 12:39 PM msenatore

Hello,

I have hooked up in our basement 8 60-watt lights on 1 15-Amp line (#14 wire) and was just wondering how many lights are ok on that type of ciruit.

Thanks,
Mike

Divide 1440 by the total lamp wattage you plan to get the max number of lights. The 1440 comes from 80% of 1800 which is the maximum wattage available for a 15A circuit at 120V. That gives you some wiggle room.

100% usage of 15 amp circuit is 1800 watts. Stay below 1800 watts and youare OK.
