Can a microwave labeled as "over-the-counter" be installed as an actual "built-in," i.e. enclosed on all sides by cabinetry? Are there specific things to look for, such as the issue of the vent, etc?

All microwave ovens have to be vented in some way. Models that can be built-in have this venting through the front, counter-top models on the top or rear. I think you'll see that an under the cabinet microwave oven model has its venting on the bottom. Unless you made allowances for that venting in your enclosure, it would not function properly (at least for long).

So one labeled as "over-the-range" with venting in front might be suitable providing space is made for that vent? I suppose I was concerned about having the bottom of the microwave enclosed as well, as the over-the-range models are usually just enclosed on the three sides, correct?
