My husband and I are will have to build a house sometime soon, and we are looking into modular. We are actually looking at Oregon Yurtworks (yurtworks.com) specfically. Does anyone have any experience with this company?

FYI, if someone else is looking, I contacted a few owners independant of the company, adn 100% have loved the product. I think it's a go.

Built yurt addition to my home in 2003... have experienced extensive problems with water damage.

My name is Bette and I'm the office manager for Oregon Yurtworks, LLC.

The purpose of this letter is to provide you with information regarding products produced, marketed and installed by Oregon Yurtworks, LLC and its predecessor, Oregon Yurtworks, Inc.

On January 1, 2006, Oregon Yurtworks, LLC purchased the business assets of Oregon Yurtworks, Inc. Under the terms of the sale, Oregon Yurtworks, Inc. retained all responsibility regarding warranties and other issues concerning products produced and installed prior to the sale.

Shortly after the sale occurred, Oregon Yurtworks, LLC initiated a review process of all designs and installation processes used in construction of the yurts. The review prompted some design and installation changes, most notably to the roof system.

While any warranty/design claims for products produced and installed prior to the sale would not be the legal responsibility of Oregon Yurtworks, LLC, we have created a repair procedure that incorporates elements of our design/installation changes into existing roof systems.

This procedure, which includes counseling on retrofitting existing yurts with aspects of our current design, and a list of materials needed to complete the retrofit, are available on request.

Jess66, did you ever build your yurt? I'm considering building one too and would appreciate any feed-back you might give me.

We are in the midst of extensive roof repairs on our 3 year old Oregon Yurtworks yurt because of leaks along the joints between the roof sections. Does anyone with similar problems have experience with getting financial relief for remedial repairs from the company or its previous owner?

I still have not resolved the problem with moisture staining along beams in both the overlap section of the roof and in the main yurt section. I had to hire a former supervisor at yurtworks to evaluate the problem @ cost of $845 to come down to Bandon from Eugene. At his suggestion I installed a vent in the overlay section at his suggestion bec ause he thought this moisture was caused by condensation.

The entire overlay and extension roof had to be retiled because the sections between the roof sections were not insulated whn installed.

Investigation along two beams in the main yurt revealed fiberglass insulation was installed, however, the stains continue to progress along that beam and have now appeared on a third one.

Have also had problems with popping and creaking in the main yurt. After built I discoveredthat the central skylihgt can pop on hot days.. However, this popping has increased over the years and occurs at night as well.. Am not sure of the cause, the cables encircling & holding the walls/roof were checked in 03 and seemed secure. Also the beams were not kiln-fired.. which may be another possible source.

As for new ownership.. my understanding from conversation with former supervisor who consulted.. the prior owner is still a major minority owner of business.. he said at 49% .. I did not check w/ Oregon Corporation on this issue. Certainly Morgan was still at Yurtworks while I was trying to deal w/ problem

Meanwhile construction to install the vent & rertile roof cost over $4000 & the contractor screwed up on roofing.. which will hvve to be repaired this summer.

Love the structure but the problems are unreasonable, including dealing w/ Morgan... I can't even obtain the original instructions for instalation or a copy of the video instructions which they said were included.

Let me clarify some facts on the problems... Stains began to appear in the roofing in the yurt under the overlay section connecting the yurt to my home. My contractor said it was faulty central skylight. After some conflict between contractor and yurtworks.. the manufacturer sent a new skylight and employee from Eugene who confirmed the skylight was leaking and installed another at no cost to me. He also caulked the slats on the outside that cover the gaps where the walls are connected which was not done when built. And he also put in a new section of interior ceder paneling to cover the stains along the beams. This was done at no cost to me..

Stains began to reappear... Contractor said new skylight was defective... refused to have anything to do with problem or make any investigative searches through the drywall.. This forced me to hire the former yurtworks employee at yurtworks suggestion to evaluate cause of problem..

The stained ceder along the beams are so extensive and deep that it is not yet possible to ascertain if the cause of the problem was condensation and the vent was sufficient ... ..

The problems are compounded by the fact that the moisture penetration did not manifest until after a year so there is no hope of getting the Contract Board to help resolve it... The only solution then is to consider all this restoration costs as an extension of the purchase price..and/or a lawsuit

meanwhile, none of the contractors I contacted here on the coast have competence to handle repairs for this unique structure.. so I was forced to take the suggstion of Morgan and hire the former employee...

No, we haven't built yet. I did, back when we were looking into this, call some people who had them and they LOVAED them, but reading up on this, I'm not sure.

We've had some issues with paperwork, so we still haven't built.
