Mouse make you sick?

11/06/2004 04:00 PM roobiroo

I was tearing out an old old plaster wall, and came across a dead mouse skeleton... very old, very dead, very dry... and kinda interesting to my two boys. My husband says you can get a deadly illness from this sort of thing, I say hmmm... We all had work gloves on when we touched it, I can't see how it could be of harm after that long dead... Anyone know someting I don't? (besides my husband) :-)

Sick house, sick mouse...

Hi Roobiroo,

OK, I'm no expert on these things, really, but I'd think, if you're dealing with a dead dry mouse skeleton, no big deal.

I know here in Colorado, there's something you don't want...it's called "hantavirus" (mostly near "Four corners") and is transmitted through mouse feces (sorry, I know; not a very pleasant thought).

I would hope that there aren't the remains of others--or at least, that they'd be just as 'dead.' Personally, I just as soon not find mice remains that are "fresh."

Hmmmmm, now....how to keep them out of the house; that's another story (I could write a book). But if it's a one-shot deal, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Humanity has been dealing with stuff like this for millenia. A part of nature, if you think of it...

Regards,
