I have a problem maybe someone can help me with. I am remodeling my home and I have discovered my floors in my kids bedroom, as well as hall and bath are not level. I Have a house 3 br standard with full basement. After inspecting the basement and the foundation i have noticed that the owner before me has taken out one of the support beams, so that a car can be pulled inside the basement, thus after years going by, now i have unlevel foors and cracking drywall....anyone any ideas please help. you can also reach me at davidevans802@comcast.net Thanks again.

If you can tell what was there you can replace it with like. But you will need to jack up the floors first.

Or you might want to get a structural engineer.

They might come up with alternates that allow you to keep the clear space.

It was a beam, I know this because when I bought the house it was found in the basement, cut off so I am un able to use this beam. Where can I get floor jacks? so I can jack up the house, and how is this done? or is this better off left for a proffesional, I am on a budget but I want it done right.

Also to add to my other post, I am in the middle of hanging drywall in my daughters room, and what we did is closed off the walkin closet that was in bettween my sons room and daughters room, and also did i mention you had to leave the rooms to get access to the closet. This was a big inconveniance, so now in my sons room he has his own closet space, and my daughter will have hers as well. So to make a long story short, I opened up the wall on my daughters side for her closet, and my door frame is not square or plum at all. I know this is becuase of the floors not being level, so I stopped what I'm doing, and seeking help with the structure.

You can probably find a rental store that has the jacks.

But there is a lot of details about where you should jack and how you make the mechanical connects to replace the beam.

I don't have any specific recommendations, but you might find some books on home building/remodeling/carpentry that mentions this.

But I suggest that you at least get a professional to consult on this or have them do it.
