Hello.
I need a heating solution for a basement apartment so that I can get it ready to rent.
I own a 3-level townhouse and recently finished renovating the basement into an aparment that I will rent. The contractor found an HVAC person to install the heating system.
The HVAC person installed vents in the basement so that the heat from the furnace ( which is located in a small room in the apartment ) would heat the apartment. The only thermostat is located in my part of the house and the tenant will NOT have access to it.
This seemed like a bad idea to me but he convinced me it would work. Needless to say, it did NOT work. Heat does not get to the apartment and it stays cold down there. I would not put a person down there to be cold all winter.
The apartment is 540 sq feet. It is rectangular in shape and has a wall that runs the length of the aparment except for a door at one end. This effectivly makes two-parts to the apartment. So whatever heating solution I used will have to heat both sides. One side of the wall is the kitchen, living space area. The other side of the wall is the bedroom and bathroom.
I request all opinions and suggestions on this as I need the most economical and efficient heating solution possible. Are there dual heating/AC window units available ? baseboard heating? Please send me your ideas.

You already have a furnace and a thermostat to run it, albeit the thermostat is in the wrong room and the ductwork doesn't supply the room with heat. Change the location of the thermostat to an inside wall of the apartment and have the ductwork altered to deliver the heat.
You can abandon what is already there if you don't like it. Installing electric baseboard is quick and simple.

Yes, you really have to find out the MAKE and MODEL to get good answers. There IS more than one machine made. |
