01/05/2008 03:25 PM ctcreasy

We are a young couple doing a major addition to our home and right now we have electric heat and we hate it! So we are going to put in a new heating system but don't now which we should go with natural gas, oil or propane we have no idea what we should be asking our selves to figure out what would be best for us or how to figure out what would be the better heating system in the long run. Any suggestions or tips are more then welcome we need help!!
Thank you Tiffany

The long run

In the long run, a hot water system using a low-temperature boiler and twice as much baseboard as usual or radiant floor heating will be the most comfortable and economical because of the ability to shut off or reduce temperatures in sections of the house as with electric baseboard, but with the flexibility to change boilers with the costs of fuels changing.

You don't tell where you are, and that will make some differences in which heating source you use, as electric is three times oil or gas in most areas; but electricity is less expensive in hydroelectric areas.

In those areas propane is also low because it has to compete with low electric prices.

Yes, you really have to find out the MAKE and MODEL to get good answers. There IS more than one machine made.
