We're thinking planning on getting rid of our current house and rebuilding on the same piece of land. We're in the plan drawing stage and looking for a way to estimate the approx. cost of the project. Any ideas how to do that? We need to have some idea about what it's gonna cost us becore we move on to the next step.

You need to get ahold of a few contractors and they will give you the price for the complete project.You need to have an idea of what exactly you want.
Most builders will give a free estimate,the difference from a carpenter or plain builder is they will only give you a price to build a house.Now you will need to get ahold of painters,drywallers, plumbers,electrical,foundation,etc...etc...
What a pain get a few quotes from contractors it will be complete start to finish.Like said most will do this for free or they do where I come from.
