New Kenmore problem (Dan ?!!)

12/21/2002 04:38 PM Chrismil68

This is getting to be a problem. Just replaced motor in a Kenmore dryer. Upon reassembly, when I turn it on it is sounding like it is rubbing on somthing and upon each rotation make a clunk sound.

I have repaired quite a few similar dryers in the past from motors to coils to belts, thermostats etc. and have never encountered this problem.

Took this thing apart 2 more times to recheck proper belt routing, rollers, tensioner, heck even for proper motor rotation and it still makes this noise.

What could I be overlooking !!

On most models of Kenmore dryers, the thumping could be caused by a flat on one (or more) of the drum rollers. The rubbing could possibly be the rear drum seal rubbing on a ridge on the bulkhead. You can read about installation of that seal at the following link:

LINK > Rear dryer drum seal installation instructions

I can't think of anything else, sorry.

The blower was froze on the back end of the motor.

It almost took an act of congress to release it.

Try checkeing the 2 piece nylon or plastic bearing on fromt of drum. Most large mouth dryers have a 2 piece bearing. If any of the mounting tabs are broken, could be the problem
