Michigan code was recently changed from 2 layers of shingles to 3. I have discovered up to 5! layers on my roof which the FHA inspector did not discover, note or pay any attention to(!?!). The roof is a Hip-type on a 45 year old brick ranch, and I want to do the job myself. Can anyone advise about doing a Hip roof or where I might get hold of clear, simple and step-by-step instruction? |

Yes, when you buy the shingles to do the job they come with the instructions on the inside of the package...

If you have 4-5 layers of comp, you've got a big job ahead of you. Plan on several days to tear off. I would do it by section. Be sure to have tarps to cover the exposed decking in case of bad weather. Also most cities will rent you a waste trailer so you can rake the debris directly into it. This will save you a lot of picking up later. Also, try to lay some tarp or ground coveralong the edge of your house. This will catch a lot of the nails. Installation is easy. Like the other guy said it's on the package. Good luck. |
