The shower is in the corner of the bathroom, and the shower head is mounted on a thin wall - other side is a whirlpool tub. House was built in 1999 - don't know if that helps. Maybe I'll try and use a pipe wrench one more time then call a plumber. I can't fix the very slow drain in the shower anyway, so it may be worth bringing someone in to fix it all.
