I have an old home with linoleum sheets running around my very large kitchen. A half-hearted attempt to remove the wall covering convinced me that this would be a BAD idea. I have been scouring the internet for information on what I can do with this type of wall board. I have seen a few posts from people with similar dilemmas-- but no POST-project reports. Let me summarize my situation in the hopes someone has suggestions or "lessons learned" to share.I am looking for some new ideas.

The kitchen is very large, and the linoleum is much higher than a "typical" chair rail-- about shoulder height. I am considering painting both the linoleum and the wall above and simply slapping a "chair rail" around the border where the two meet. I am also consider framing in blocks with wood slats (pseudo paneling.. or perhaps more like a barn door). The room is certainly large enough accomodate a high wainscoating, but I want to keep this project low stress and low budget.

Some additional notes for perspective: The house is a turn of the century farmhouse. Solid/amish built. The room has 6 doors and
three windows and a couple of built-in cupboards. I am toying with painting it a cranberry.. if not, then a mossy green.

Any suggestions? Any experiences to share?
