There are other places lint can collect in greater quantity inside the the dryer.

Did any part of the dryer get disassembled and maybe not put back correctly?
Other than that, something possibly could have been forced into the dryer's blower fan? At least some disassembly of the dryer might be required to determine the exact cause.
