Opening a Kenmore dryer to get a new thermistor in there

07/06/2008 01:14 PM jonrdad

OK, so now it seems like I should replace the thermistor in my Kenmore dryer. I don't want to force anything--how do I get into my Kenmore model 110.71082000. I've seen the guides for some dryers, but none that look quite like mine. And the guides assume you know what parts to remove to get in there...

Thanks for your help!!

Access panel

On your model the lower front access is removable. It pulls away from the rest of the cabinet toward its top and then lifts off the lower retaining clips.

BTW. It's best if you post follow ups as replies to your original message rather than starting a new one each time. That way all messages on the same topic will be kept together in a single message thread so others can follow it from start to finish.

Any tips?

07/06/2008 05:57 PM jonrdad

The upper left side feels looser than the upper right, but putting both hands on the left side near the top and my knee beneath the door and pulling with all my might doesn't work.

Just keep pulling? Feels like I need a crow bar...

WHEW--it's open...

Now I remember that even though I know what part to buy and what the part looks like, I don't have a picture of where it actually goes in this dryer.

Could I get a link?

Thanks!

strong grip

** Just keep pulling? **

The guys that do it day in and day out build up really strong fingers. It might also be able to be pried loose at the top using a putty knife (not screwdriver) between it and the cabinet at the side. Being careful not to chip the paint of course.

** I don't have a picture of where it actually goes **

Me neither. It mounts on the blower housing.

Behind the grey cover on the left?

07/07/2008 12:17 AM jonrdad

I have to remove the metal cover on the left, ~4 hex head screws? Once I do that will it be easy to pop the old one out and plug the new one in?
It looks like it just plugs in, right:

Yes the wires just push onto its terminals.

Hey Thanks!

DanO, thanks for all the support. I bought the part from repairclinic.com and plugged it in. Simple and it seems to have worked! Plus, I got to pull out 7 years of lint, etc that was stuck in the blower area.
