Original wall planking under lath, to keep or not keep?

The 1st of many questions... I'm removing the lath & plaster from an 1882 Italianate. Beneath the lath are 1"x12" verticle planking nailed to the exterior 2x4's.
I'm going to use Icynene foam insulation and wondering if I should keep the planking up and have the foam sprayed behind it. The planking behind the drywall would make a wonderfully solid wall. What do you think? The home is of a balloon construction and this planking certainly seems to add to the strength of the structure. Thanks!
