I have one wall of 5 outlets and they are showing that they are live with a neon tester and when a voltage tester is used it is not showing anything. We have changed out the breaker because we thought it might be bad but the outlets still aren't working.I have worked on electrical wiring before but I have not heard of this problem.Any ideas would be appreciated. |

If the neon light tester is lighting at all, voltage is present. You need to take a voltage reading from line to neutral, and line to ground. If you're reading voltage line to ground but not line to neutral, you have a loose/broken neutral connection somewhere in the circuit.
If you can determine what outlets/lights other than the 5 in question are on that ciecuit, you will need to examine those outlet connections since the problem could be located at a working outlet. Try checking the outlets on that circuit that are physically closest to the non-working devices. Don't forget to check lights & light switches if they are also one the circuit. |

I bought a receptacle tester and it shows that all the outlets are hot/ground reverse. |

The 3 light testers can give misleading results under some conditions where there is already a problem.
IIRC an open neutral will give that indication. |
