Hey Dan,

Mom's electric range had a part actually drop right inside the oven while baking the other day. The part looks like a filter at the bottom of the pipe that goes up through the center of that right-rear burner (oven vent) and is round in shape. It's about a 1/4" - 1/2" thick and about 1 1/2" in diameter. To me, it looks like a honeycomb with many round holes in the center.

I have tried a few of the parts websites to see if I can find this part. I don't know what to call it other than, perhaps, an "Oven Vent Steel Filter."

Are you familiar with this part? And, if so, how may I find it. The above model was purchased on 3/31/92 so it's at least 15 yrs. of age.

Yes, the oven vent.

Some older range/oven models had a sort of 'catalytic converter' for the oven vent gases to help reduce the fumes sent into the room while cooking. I looked up the parts list for that model and it is not shown separately but might have only been sold already installed in the oven vent (part # 307961) which is no longer available.

While I have seen some electric 'catalytic converters' (for lack of the proper terminology) up close, it may be possible that there were some that weren't powered at all (like a car's). If it doesn't look like any wires are meant to attach to it, it might be possible to just try reinstalling it or if worse came to worse, try using the oven the way it is although trying to fix it would be desired.

Yeah, I haven't a clue other than this thing sits up in that pipe. It could be that catalytic converter part that you mention.

Perhaps what we'll do is just run this 15 yr. old oven as is.
