OK, I just moved and had to install a second phone line into the house. The phone guys did all of the wiring and since it cost me $500 to have him come out, I am trying to fix this so I don't have to pay him again to come out.

Here is what I have:

Line 1 - Run on its own cable, works fine.

Line 2 - Just installed. Guy ran cat 3 cable from the box outside to the jack inside. On the outside, he has blue and white wires hooked up. On the inside it is blue and white.

Problem: Lines 2 - dsl works fine, no dial tone. I have tried everything: hooking phone straight to the jack, changing cables.

I need this second line for a fax machine. Would someone help me!!

Sounds like you might have a DSL splitter that isolated the DSL from the phone side.

Look at Network interface box. And plug a phone in to the test jack, if you don't get a dail tone there then the phone company did not properly set up the new line.

If you go to www.dslreports.com you can find details and pictures of how spliters are wired.

If you have 2 lines you will have two wiring block. Each of these have a test jack and plug. Wiring input side connects to the Telco part of the box with the surge arrestor. Then other part of the block has terminals where the house wiring connects for a simple installation.

If you have a DSL splinter installed it will be another block, but it won't have a test jack.

The input side will connect to the output of one of the test jack blocks. Then it will have 2 sets of terminal, one for DSL and the other for phone.

It is also possible that they installed a spliter inside the house some place.

NOTE- the spliter is a dual filter and will remove phone signals fromt he DSL side. The plug in micro filters that come with the self-install kits only filter out the DSL signal from the phones.

Inside there is a jack with blue and white that goes into it and then black, red, yellow and green go into when you plus your phone cord into. Then, coming out of the jack, there is a splitter, one for dsl and one for phone. Any information on how to fix this would be helpful.

I think that you left out a couple of words. I do that all the time, thinking faster than I type.

I take it that the spliter is inside the network interface box.

What you need to do is to connect an pair of wires to the phone connects on the spliter and on the inside connect them to a phone jack.
