PREPARING FLOOR FOR NEW VINYL FLOORING

We are trying to remove tar paper from an old floor. It is on a hardwood floor. Do we need to remove it all the way down to the hardwood floor so that we can put a new vinyl tile down.

DJM,

You have two choices. Either remove the tar paper down to the hardwood, Not one of my favorites. Choice two would be to cover the floor completely with a plywood underlayment. This will probably be the easiest of the two, and give you a much better surface to install your new tile.
