PROGRESS #1 people (other than T, Eli and Brian)

Just curious to know where you guys are on the table project. I cut the stringing on the leg and got an inferior result on the rounded top. Tear out using the trammels was nasty.

Just curious to know how everyone who is doing this purely through the internet is progressing along. I'm off to buy the gouges today. I've given up hope of making a perfect project and have resigned myself to just learning the techniques. I know that was the plan all along.

making out

Well, I have been a little stand still, I ran out of veneer for the fan, so that held me up, then I had to go up to the Masters house to build a stepping stool and have been messing with that all week in the little bit of time I have had to do it. So maybe tomorrow I can put the drawer together and start back on the fan. Hopefully this week it will be done.

Where did you find your leather punch set?

I've checked online and at Rockler and Woodcraft and no luck. Where did you find yours?

Progress report as of 5/10/08

Ken and I are in the process of working on the the fan...we have taped the two halfs together and need to glue it to the backer.

My bellflowers and string, and leg banding are done, the square of stainwood is in, still need to string around it.

I picked up the punches at a Tandy Leather shop.

Hey Paul... I'm pretty much where you're at.... I've got 3 of the 4 gouges, one was out of stock and is getting shipped to me... got the punch set at Lee Valley...

So I've been experimenting with the gouges a bit... they are Henry Taylors, they need to be sharpened... hope I don't screw them up doing that....

I'm trying to play around with Eli's techniques for plunging in the gouges at the two different angles

Hey Paul:

I've cut grooves with my scratch stock, need to string, this past weekend, got my hot plate, a Wolfgang Puck sauce pan, home depot sand and just Monday got my punch set. So I'm hitting ole crazy again.

right on!

Let's keep going Neil...doing this purely through the internet seems tougher doesn't it? Now, I gotta get some sand and get going. I'm going to skip buying a hotplate and I'm gonna use the side burner on our barbeque :-)
