Painted Timbertech deck

08/06/2009 10:35 PM eboutdoors06

I have posted previously about the travails of maintaining my very large Timbertech deck due to mold problems. After 6 years of awful maintenance, we had the deck stripped of sealer and 2 coats of Pittsburgh Paint product called *****oof was painted on. It is specially formulated for composite decks. The decking was so porous that it took 2 coats. The painter said he thought the paint was bonding very well and hopefully should not be prone to peeling. The uniform color of the *****oof paint is a vast improvement over the moldy look or the smudgy look from using sealer. This is the last resort in the care of this deck. If the paint peels, we will throw away the Timbertech and re do the deck with a quality non molding product. I hope Timbertech gets the pants sued off them for all the cost and trouble they got away with. I once accepted payment from Timbertech for the cost of professionally cleaning it in exchange for no suing them. Timbertech thinks they can get away with it because they never claimed it to be mold resistant. They let all of us unsuspecting people learn the expensive way. Next time, I hope to have a nice tiny natural stone patio. Now that would be low maintenance!
