Painting over a lacquer finish

09/02/2002 12:20 PM swtpea1943

Is there any way to paint over a lacquer finish, or a way to prepare the finish to accept a satin finish? Thank you. Lori

If you want to paint the lacquer you will need to sand the surface then wipe with paint thinner and then wash with amonia and water. The primer to use will be BIN from the Zinsser Company and the finish paint can be eihter acrylic or oil based enamel. The prep wopuld be the same if you want to apply a satin lacquer over a gloss finish.
