I have a leak spraying out of my main water shutoff coming into the house...no worries it only leaks when u turn it to shut it off (it is open all the way right now and not leaking). The house is plumbed to be a maze of galvanized pipe. I am not comfortable with that as if something were to go wrong I don't know how to fix galvanized and I cannot afford a plumber. So my objective is to cut the galvanized out before the main shutoff, convert to PVC and replumb ( I have used PVC many many times before and am very comfortable using it). The only hangup is I have never had to connect PVC to galvanized and don't know if there are special fittings for that. Someone suggested a compression coupling, but I didn't think that would works since it will be under pressure. Also, I do have the town's number to call and have water shut off before doing the work (i know someone will remind me on this...lol). I do not want to leave the galvanized either because I do have some rust deposit coming from the pipes and I know swapping to PVC will help. Thanks in advance!
Sorry for not using the Cpvc. I would use CPVC for all of it both hot and cold. I plan on installing a ball valve as the main shutoff. Thanks much!!!!!!!
