Primer for new drywall necessary?

09/24/2003 10:37 PM Marigold

Is it really important to use primer on new drywall? Or, can the first coat of latex paint be considered a "primer" that will seal the drywall?
Thanks!

If you want a hassle free job use the primer,I would never warranty a new drywall job that hasn't been primed 1st.
Also primer is alot less expensive than it is for the paint so it will also save you money.

Go to www.paintquality.com - see what they have to say about primers.

Yes primer is the best way to go when painting new drywall and that is if you are going to use flat or a satin/eggshell finish. It seals the wall better than flat paint and will give you a better looking job.

It is good to be back after 9 days without electricity from hurricane Isabel.
