bellflowers/justin

Justin, The black/white stringing like I said was something I bought from dover inlay before I started this project. I ran out of maple/holly so I used it. I liked the simple sweep of the bellflowers using the #20 etc. On these bellflowers I was trying something different by cutting the flowers with a #12 and then reversing the sweep with a #8 at the point where the #12 sweep ended. These were the sweeps I had I'm sure with other sizes you could easily create different shapes. That is the beauty of learning these tech. Now that I know the "basics" I can try other designs. CAUTION I really liked doing the bellflowers but there is a bunch of other techniques coming down the road. So keep the momentum going.

Howdy.........

Here's where I'm at,.... had alot of fun, used tools I haven't for many years, frustrating at times. While cutting dovetail in top rail, cracked the RSF leg when I tapped too hard with my mallet. Fixed, no big deal, got to use my good block planes to clean-up. That was kinda neet. Cut one side short, using my mitre guage on top of my excaliber sliding tbl, slid the side over, caught on the table, never looked thought it hit my mitre guage stop ...wrong. Milled another...didn't want an episode 56.

I had a good time getting it to this point.......exactly what I wanted the project to do for me it is.

Now... I have to leave it and get on to something else for awhile....I'll be in and out of it, but always in the game.

Thanks Chizz.

Question........what blade did you use in your saw to cut the taper. ForresterII, got burning on my legs. Didn't want to take the time to switch to a rip blade.

All right Neil!

Neil, great to see you post your table.

I got the same burning with my WWII blade on the first two double tapered legs and removed those marks with my 4 1/2. Switched to a freud glue line rip and had no problems on the quad tapered legs. I think my WWII needs to be sharpened. I've never gotten a good clean cut with that blade.

just want I needed

Paul......thanks man.....feel the same way about the WWII, for some reason I've always found my blade to feel over aggressive, wine's more than my other blades, kicks up more dust....the Freud rip was the exact blade I was going to go too....got lazy. Chizz is right though.....my WWII has seen its share of composites. It'll need a sharpening.

The take off of this project has been great.... exciting to be a part but even more exciting to watch what occurs. There are so many good woodworkers, they just need a sandbox to play in and a platform to blast off from......Chizz provides both.

Neil,
Looks good man. Now the real time comsuming stuff comes. The Bellflowers and banding take some time. But the result was well worth it for me.
