Great Job!

Wow! You guys work fast! The tables are looking great. The applied foot procedure is on the official procedure page in MyProjects:
http://www.bobvila.com/MyProjects/The_Rough_Cut_Show_Federal_Table-P1972.html

The middle haunch doesn't have to be super tight. The most important part is to make sure tenon sits tight against the bottom of the mortise.

Those legs look awesome, Rob! Doing the quad-tapered leg with no foot is a pretty simple change from the one with a foot.

Keep up the good work, everyone. And keep the pictures coming.

Here's my afternoon's progress...

I ran down to my lumberyard yesterday and they were out of the mo-hog, so I had to settle for walnut... anyhow, I hope to start on the legs tomorrow,

Eli, what's the importance of having the tenons bottom out?

Look forward to seeing everyone else's pics.

Thanks again to Tommy and Eli.

Looking good, Whit

Nice looking table you've got there. What are the fish all over it?

The tenons need to sit on the bottom edge of the mortise so that the bottoms of the rails all lie in the same plane. That's why we stayed off our knife lines when mortising, and then pared to the lines. It's all to ensure that those rails line up perfectly.

This may seem like small potatoes, but it's a big deal. If the rails aren't all in the same plane, your table won't sit flat. s a result, there will be no reference when installing the runners. Also, when we band the bottom edge of the rails, the banding won't run continuously around the table. Finally, there will be a big old gap under your rails.

Obviously, there's always a fix for every problem. But, for me, this is one of those situations where I'm extra careful.

Thanks, Eli

I put a "fish" on a side after I run on the jointer so I will know which side goes up in the planer. I didn't even pay any attention to the photo...I guess they just happened to all be on the same side.

Anyhow, I guess I just misunderstood the first post on the tennons. I understand sitting on the bottom of the mortise, I thought you meant the back (as in the surface that abuts the tennon surface that you chamfered.)

I was just curious, as I was in a hurry to get to dinner tonight and decided to chop a hair off the end of the tennon instead of really cleaning out the mortise. Thought thats what you were talking about NOT doing... nevermind...

Thanks,

Whit

Very cool........I'm excited to see a few of these in walnut also. Hey Smitty, I was going to clip the tenon bottom also, reference off the top. I think I better go read the procedure sheet and stay on the North Bennett side of the Street, before I'm

swimming with your fishes......Neil :)
