Proper installation of HVAC system?

02/05/2001 12:58 PM gfnrf

Is there a website or other source that a consumer can visually review to be able to have better knowledge of the proper installation of a A/C and FAU heating system with the ducts and vents?

For example, with the A/C unit that is located outside - what is required of the connections to the house and where are they to be located? How can we determine the quality of the installation, since a city inspector just notes if it was installed to minimum code requirements, not necessarily whether or not it was the optimal installation possible or of any quality.

Thanks - gfnrf@gte.net

As with most novices, there is no realization that there is no ONE place in a house, there is no
ONE house that everybody has, so the ONE place in the ONE WAY that is looked for can be defined. Each installation is a custom installation. There are codes, but there is no ONE code for every location in the country.

Therefore, start looking to the local code inspector to tell you which code they use there, so you have a place to start. HVAC uses construction, electrical, and AC codes that give those specifications. The device that is to be installed has the installation and service manuals that apply to the PARTICULAR device.

In other words, you can get an answer from someone out of your area with different equipment in a completely different house, so the answer will be useless.

Yes, you really have to find out the MAKE and MODEL to get good answers. There IS more than one machine made.
