Is there a website or other source that a consumer can visually review to be able to have better knowledge of the proper installation of a A/C and FAU heating system with the ducts and vents?

For example, with the A/C unit that is located outside - what is required of the connections to the house and where are they to be located? How can we determine the quality of the installation, since a city inspector just notes if it was installed to minimum code requirements, not necessarily whether or not it was the optimal installation possible or of any quality.
