Pros and Cons of Pre-Cast Foundations

04/21/2003 08:27 PM lujew

I am getting ready to build my own house and I am looking into the Superior Walls system (www.superiorwalls.com). I am really impressed w/ the PSI strength of the concrete, the energy efficiency and ease of finishing the basement, and the speed to which they can be installed. They also come with a 15 year dry guarantee on their systems. Everyone I talk to around here is worried about the lack of a footer being used with this system, however they have been installed for over 20 years with apparently no problems. So does anyone have any experience with this system and could give Pros/Cons, on using this system. Thanks.

Pros and Cons of Pre-Cast Foundations

04/23/2003 11:11 AM homebild

The only industry in my area that adapted Superior Walls for use in their buildings is the modular industry.

Custom builders don't use them and rely instead on tried and true poured concrete foundations or concrete block foundations.

Superior walls have their limitations among which are their inability to be altered to, for example, add windows, doors, or other modifications to the basement.

Addaptability a Superior Walls strength

Homebild is entirely incorrect in stating that Superior Walls are not adaptable. In his area, they may be used by modular homebuilders, but it does not logically follow that Superior Wallls are therefore not adaptable.

Every Superior Walls foundation is custom designed for each particular house. There are no openings or configurations that cannot be made for your next foundation.

In the Cincinnati area, Superior Walls were first adopted by very high-end custom home builders for probably the very same reason that modular builders in "homebild"'s area use them: SUperior Walls are a better foundation in every aspect than poured-in-place, block, or ICF - period.

The limitation on their use by your next homebuilder is ignorance of the product.

Superior Walls

As a custom builder in Cincinnati, I would never use Superior Walls. The associated problems of cracking and leaking prohibit their use. Simply not worth the liability issues.

In addition, the custom builder who has part ownership in the local cincinnati franchise has had to declare bankruptcy from losing a lawsuit over the Superior Wall system.
