I have pine posts supporting an outdoor structure. Posts are on a 4 inch concrete slab. The wood is not treated however black brick mason flashing is wrapped around base of posts and the posts are caulked at bottem.
Bricks will be put around posts. I have two questions about the situation.

1. How long will these untreated posts last?
2. Should weep holes be used since they may let water in during rains.

Untreated wood posts should NOT rest directly in contact with the concrete. The wood will not last long if this is the case. No more than 5 years would be my best estimate. The wood should at least be seperated from the concrete with a flashing membrane.

Weep holes that are installed just above the grade and used in conjuntion with flashing to channel water out is always a help.

You should re-think this before you continue and use treated wood or at the least, coat the wood and keep it from direct contact with the concrete.
