RCA TV Rainbow color

11/19/2004 03:58 PM fburruss

My 37" RCA tv was in storage for a while and now the color on the tv is like a rainbow. Someone said it must have been stored next to speakers or something with a strong magnet. Is there any way to bring the color back to normal? Would I have to use some type of magnet to restore the color pattern? I'd rather not pay to have someone tell me it can't be fixed.

TV Degaussing...

11/19/2004 04:52 PM k2

Hi Frieda,

I'm no expert on these matters, but it might be worth waiting a couple days and seeing if this irons itself out. I've heard that many TVs (like computer CRTs) have built-in degaussing circuitry, that is done at every power-on. If this is the case, each power-on should improve it somewhat.

If the problem doesn't go away, you might need to call in a pro for degaussing.

I'd watched someone degauss a screen years ago; it was a pretty neat trick.

I think the reason degaussing is built-in these days (where it didn't used to be) is that TVs are so large these days, the earth's magnetic field (among others) can have an impact.

Or, maybe the TVs have gotten so big that they're affecting the earth's magnetic field, LOL....

Regards,
