ROUTER TABLE QUESTION: |

I am an avid router table user. I upgraded to a big 3/5 hp router and needed a heavy duty table for it. I really like the Sears Professional table with it's very flat very stable cast top. problem is I have to mount my router to an adaptor plate below the table. The stack ups on the heights are: . table top thickness is: 4/8" router adaptor plate thickness is: 1/8" stand-offs between plate and table bottom is: 2/8" . The problem is when I use the router manual's recommended collet insertion depth for bit's of 3/4", and considering the bit shanks are only 1 1/4" long, I can't get the bit to stick high enough above the table!!! Help!!! Whay can I do? Is this typical??? I really really liek the table but I can't use it with my typical 1/4" shank bits!!! Someon else MUST be sharing this problem. |

I think your best bet is to make your own insert from a peice of lexan or plexiglass. It will replace the router's base and still fit into the table. You may also consider building your own table. Se www.woodmagazine.com for plans. |

Scot, I agree with BobF, but just wanted to let you know of another web page with plans for building your own table, it's www.am-wood.com. Check their archives for a router table it seems to be a very nice setup, although I haven't built mine yet. |
