Recomended Reading?

12/01/2002 09:59 AM Wulftred

I purchased my home a year ago and have since gutted the entire inside to bring it to my standards. Well on my working I found myself getting more and more interested in the way homes are built, different styles, and original ideas.

I have come up with a variety of rough perspective and elevation drawings for my home, but I need more precise drawings. I have recently been studying FLLW homes and anything to do with the master architect in general.

O.K., my question, is there some recomended books or sources reguarding getting started as a amateur architect? Or basically enough information to get me on my way to properly designing my home into a reality? Thanks alot.

Recomended Reading?

As an architecture student, I found that any book by Francis Ching to be enlightening. Form Space and Order covers the essence of what true architecture embraces. A must have for anyone who is really interested in Architecture beyond fidling with home design. His building construction books are loaded with technical information and lavishly illustrated. Fine Home Building has to be the best magazine that I have found for home design/construction. However when it comes time to actually design your home do yourself a favor and hire a competent designer. Good Luck!

Everyone thinking of building a home ought to have & read "Build It Right". This is a collection of common 'mistakes' made by builders and what to do to prevent them. http://www.UserFriendlyHome.com
